Safety Light Curtains
A safety light curtain (or safety light grid) 
comprises an emitter and a receiver, which must be mounted opposite each other. When the light beam is broken, even momentarily as someone or something crosses into the hazardous work area the output on the controller latches and the machine is either stopped or operates only in a safe manner.Depending on the resolution and the length, a certain number of transmit and receive diodes are arranged on top of each other. The infrared LEDs of the emitter emit short light pulses that are detected by the receive diodes.
Safety light curtains provide redundant outputs, so if there is a failure there is redundancy. Using both and wiring them in series minimizes problems with single component failures.
