Radio Telemetry
For over 16 years Powelectrics have been supplying and supporting low power radio solutions. We offer system design, supply, installation and commissioning, as well as after sales support and training.
The equipment has a range of 20 kilometres if the topography suits, and there are solutions for transmitting discrete analogue, digital & pulse signals as well as units for wireless RS232, wireless RS485 and wireless Profibus communications.
Radio Telemetry System for discrete signals - Versanet
transmit discrete signals, such as analogue (4-20mA, 0 to 5 volts), digitals (on/off) and pulses over distances of up to 20 kilometres without the need for cable.
Radio Modem - RM9600
The RM9600 Radio Modem series enables the transmission
of RS232 and RS485 over distances up to 20 kilometres wirelessly.
The radio modems include forward error correction (FEC), and Listen Before Transmit. The user can select the frequency of operation and easily change interface parameters.
Radio Telemetry Services
Powelectrics are able to offer complete radio telemetry
services, offering surveys and system design, installation and commissioning, after sales care and training. The application of radio telemetry is the key to a successful deployment and there's no one better to turn to.
Ethernet Radio Modem
The ERM4024E is a 802.11b/g compliant Ethernet
radio modem operating in the license-free 2.4GHz band. Capable of transmitting data up to 54Mbits/s over distances in excess of 1km (terrain and antenna dependant), the ERM4024E is a reliable and secure unit that provides high-speed wireless Ethernet connectivity across a broad range of applications in the utilities, process control, private and manufacturing industries. It can connect to a range of Ethernet-enabled devices such as PLCs, HMIs, DCS, data acquisition, video and PCs.
The ERM4024E is suitable for both long and short-range applications. A repeater function also helps to increase the wireless range even further.
Antenna's for delicensed radio telemetry in the 458MHz band
Antenna selection and location is an important factor in the implementation of a delicensed radio telemetry
system. There are several options available that work with both Versanet and the RM9600 giving working ranges up to 20 kilometres.
The higher the antenna and the clearer the line of sight betweeen one antenna and the other the longer the range.
Why use low power radio telemetry
Modern radio telemetry system are reliable, easy to install and configure, easy to upgrade and maintain and offer a great many advantages over alternative communication methods if a few simple guidlelines are followed.
It could that it is too far for cable to be cost effective - delicensed radio telemetry systems can work over ranges up to 20 kilometres, getting across a factory, or crossing a road, or an industrial estate or a town is pretty straightforward.

Supporting radio telemetry
For over 14 years Powelectrics have been the sole supplier of radio telemetry solutions to one of the UK's largest water companies with over 800 systems supplied, installed, commissioned and maintained to this customer alone. Powelectrics have provided system design services, training for technicians and advice. Systems are used for both monitoring and control purposes, communicating across water and sewage treatment sites, as well as across the county with systems covering many tens of kilometres in range.
