Embracing the New Normal – A Half Year Update
As we enter Q3, Powelectrics normally publish news on the year to date and our plans for new products, services, exhibitions, seminars, appointments and so on. The whole world has faced an unexpected and formidable challenge and like everyone, Powelectrics has needed to adapt to our new environment. Dave Oakes, Powelectrics MD tells us more.
It is often said that its not the problem, but how you handle it, that dictates your ongoing relationships. Firstly, and very importantly, Powelectrics must thank our customers, suppliers and colleagues for their unwavering support across these unprecedented circumstances!
We are exceptionally fortunate that our supply chain has remained intact and we’ve been fully-stocked throughout this period. We are financially robust and have maintained progress on hardware and software R&D projects.
The Powelectrics team were fantastically flexible, adapting to home-working and introducing safe working practices in our production facilities to ensure continuity of supply. We are particularly grateful to colleagues who instigated best practices whilst caring for vulnerable family members and we are truly delighted that everyone has remained well throughout.
We have taken the opportunity to run remote team training sessions and maintain social contact with remote lunchtime chats, quizzes …even birthday celebrations, though we all look forward to working together from HQ again!
Inevitably, some customer projects have been delayed, but a significant number were successfully delivered, as planned. We have been delighted by the resilience of some key sectors in which we operate.
We are also extremely proud that Powelectrics m2m telemetry kit has been part of essential life-saving solutions from delivering oxygen to hospitals, ensuring back-up generators have fuel and producing hand sanitisers and soap.
If anything, Covid-19 has really highlighted the benefits of remote monitoring and connecting sensors to the cloud. People have seen the benefits of remote connectivity in everything they do, from virtual pubs and quizzes on Skype, gifts sent via Amazon, family dinners by Zoom. I recently turned 50 and my entire celebrations was sponsored by the Internet of Things! Even the octogenarians joined the party!
…and really, if the grandparents of the world understand the benefits of remote connectivity, then it can only bode well for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and for Powelectrics range of robust, affordable m2m solutions, so well-proven in a wide range of industries.
Devastating though this virus has been on a global scale, it’s fantastic that we already have the technology to offer new, safer ways to work, with the additional proven benefits of driving down operational costs. I invite you to review the many application stories in this news section and our industry-specific pages to learn more.
COVID-19 has changed so much! As well as the previous well-documented advantages of improved efficiency and cost reduction, Powelectrics Industry 4.0 technology can now help businesses minimise exposure to infection for customers and colleagues ...
… and minimise legal exposure for businesses that could face charges of corporate manslaughter in a legislative environment that is unclear at present.
Remote monitoring can significantly reduce personal contact and business travel. For example, early adopters in chemical & fuel distribution, using remote tank level monitoring, have reduced travel up to 30%, with fewer incidents of drivers passing security, touching valves, pumps, gauges and tanks and deliveries being scheduled to reduce congestion on sites.
Our MetronView platform even allows telemetry devices to be remotely configured and reconfigured, without the need for multiple site visits. It’s proven technology that can be deployed in volume with confidence.
Powelectrics offer our customers 30 years’ experience in sensing and remote connectivity. We deliver robust solutions offering reliable sensor data. Data on level, flow, temperature, pressure, vibration, humidity and more … for condition-monitoring or strategic management ... available on any web-enabled device, wherever you are located.
We are fully open for business and welcome the opportunity to discuss your applications and help you gear up to the ‘new normal’.
