Global Industrial Gas Business Delivers Reduced Costs, Environmental Benefits and Improved Service With Powelectrics Connected Sensor Solution

Posted on 10 May 2018

Powelectrics are engaged in a long-standing relationship with a global manufacturer of industrial gases, whose markets include refining, petrochemical, metals, energy, electronics, healthcare, food and beverages. Operating in over 50 countries, they supply oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen, CO2, process and specialty gases and enjoy an excellent reputation for developing sustainable solutions. They have achieved several accolades for their environmental focus.

Over the last ten years, they have rolled out a Powelectrics ‘connected sensor’ telemetry solution. Thousands of our award-winning Metron telemetry devices have been installed from London to Lima, Brussels to Beijing, São Paolo to Singapore.

The Metrons take level readings from cryogenic gas tanks and send data to the cloud, where it can be viewed at operational centres and processed to manage stock efficiently, reducing costs via automated order processing and the scheduling of gas deliveries.

Using solar-powered m2m devices means that no external power source is required. IP67 weatherproof enclosures, tested in operational temperatures from -25 to +65 °C, ensure that the telemetry devices perform robustly in all local climatic conditions. The quad band modem makes operation around the globe easy.

Tank levels are read automatically, at user-defined intervals, and sent to the web, via the mobile phone network, to a secure data collection platform. This ‘big data’ solution involves integration with the customer’s automatic order processing and delivery scheduling software.

Sim cards with private APN and fixed IP addresses are used, making devices ‘pollable’ at any time via GPRS. This helps our customer decide where to deliver any small quantities of product that may be left at the end of a planned delivery route, thereby avoiding expensive and potentially contaminating part load returns.

Powelectrics technology has helped enable this innovative business to harness the power of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). They have used the principles of Industry4.0 to enhance the sustainability of their business model and offer fantastic service to their customers around the world. Now that deliveries are only made when necessary, distribution costs have fallen dramatically, along with the environmental impact of making deliveries- fossil fuel consumption and pollution. Gas consumers are now assured that they will not run out of the gases they need to maintain production or provide essential care.

Powelectrics telemetry is used in a wide range of level monitoring and remote condition monitoring applications. Devices are compatible with thousands of sensors.

•    Remote condition monitoring of essential assets.
•    Tank level monitoring- any height/shape of tank- gas, liquids, powders, granules.
•    Remote meter reading.
•    Data plans include multi network SIM cards, data hosting with user-friendly, customisable online viewing & email alarms.
•    Stand-alone MetronView data platform or API for simple integration to other software
•    Robust and Proven- Tens of thousands of devices in the field globally.
•    Devices remotely configurable via MetronView, tested on site using Metron2 integral display. Devices can also be set-up/reconfigured locally using a simple wizard. No programming skills are needed.
•    Different power options including mains, solar & battery.
