Powelectrics 'Connecting' at the SPS IPC Exhibition in Nuremberg

Posted on 03 Dec 2018

Powelectrics MD, Dave Oakes and and members of the Sales Team have just returned from attending the SPS IPC Drives exhibition in Nuremburg. It was massive… with over 1630 exhibitors and more than 65,000 attendees!!

It covered the entire spectrum of smart and digital automation – from simple sensors to intelligent solutions, showcasing the latest developments from around the world.

We were delighted to catch up on the latest innovations from many of the 100 plus sensor brands we supply and it was a pleasure to spend time with old friends from EGE Elektronik and Di-Soric for whom Powelectrics are exclusive UK distributors.

The EGE range of flow and level sensors and proximity switches was already extensive, including sensors that can withstand extremes of temperature (-230 to +250) and pressure as well as devices for ATEX environments and in a wide range of materials to suit corrosive and other extreme applications including hastelloy, tantalum and Teflon (PTFE). As an extremely high quality and innovative business, they were naturally keen to demonstrate their very latest products incorporating IO-Link.

We were also pleased to spend time with Di-Soric, who updated us on their impressive exceptionally high-quality and affordable laser distance sensors, which can measure to sub microns, fork and frame light barriers, colour sensors and lighting for vision systems. Once again the innovation emphasis was on IO-Link and making connectivity easier for end-users.

We were delighted that the ‘connected sensor’ concept that Powelectrics have so actively developed and promoted was central to all discussion and we look forward to the success of our latest innovations to be announced in 2019.

Now that the concept of ’connected sensors’ is so readily understood, the timing was perfect to discuss our offer ‘Platform as a Service’, whereby sensor suppliers can simply use our hardware and software, branded as their own, to offer connectivity directly to sensor customers. It was great that so many sensor businesses saw the benefits of immediate, risk-free market entry and a new, ongoing revenue stream.

Equally, we were pleased to discuss our MetronView ‘middleware’ offering platform providers of all sizes a reliable method of getting sensor data securely into their cloud. 'Sensors as a Service' via our own robust, proven hardware and scalable software with its common API.

With 14 enormous halls completely filled with everything new in Industry 4.0, m2m, Industrial Internet of Things, smart innovation, progressive digitalisation, edge processing and automated connectivity … the days flew by …especially with entertaining illustrations of sophisticated technology, in the form of cycling and pianist robots amongst others!!!

Whilst our heads are spinning with the latest concepts and jargon being introduced from around the globe, we were reassured that Powelectrics’ recent strategy and technological developments have positioned us securely at the centre of a ‘connected sensor community’.

Many thanks to the organisers, who have certainly informed and entertained us, made it easy to connect with old friends and potential new partners ... and given us a fantastic basis to consider future strategy and innovation within Powelectrics!
