Powelectrics Tank Level Telemetry Helps Keep Britain Supplied With Tasty Snacks!
Powlectrics have recently delivered a tank level telemetry project to remotely monitor levels in palm oil tanks for a manufacturer of tasty snacks. The customer introduced this M2M solution to manage their deliveries better, by fitting whole tankers deliveries into their tanks. This reduces the number of deliveries and the associated disruption.
Constant visibility of tank levels dramatically reduces the risk of running out of a key ingredient. Removing the need for physical inspections means ops personnel can be deployed in more productive activities. The data also shows actual consumption, which can identify inefficiencies in production. Remedial action can be taken and optimal usage is maintained. The customer also has historical data to analyse trends and plan.
This connected-sensor solution employs VEGA free space radar and wave guided radar sensors. Radar was used as non-contact sensors are preferable in food environments for hygiene reasons. The tanks were already in service and only had very small entry points. VEGA sensors were able to accommodate that, without compromising accuracy.
The tanks are trace heated at 50-60 Degrees C and Powelectrics solution also monitors temperature. Custom probes were used to fit into the tank thermowells and provide low level alarms to key personnel if the trace heating fails.
Powelectrics offer extensive experience in tank level monitoring, with many thousands of systems deployed across the world. Our award-winning Metron telemetry is compatible with thousands of sensors. It can accommodate any shape or height of tank and contents may be gas, liquids, powders and granules, even at extreme temperatures and pressures or highly corrosive products. Typical tank level projects involve fuels, medical gases, foodstuffs, construction materials, chemicals, agrochemicals and waste.
Powelectrics devices are developed in close cooperation with our customers, with flexibility and fitness-to-purpose in mind. Units have an integral display, which helps with setup and test, as well as replacing costly local gauges. They can also be remotely configured via our software or set up prior for you to dispatch. They can also use external power, internal battery or solar cell, which means they can be completely self-contained where there is no power available.
Powelectrics data collection and viewing platform, Metron View, is a web-based data logger, showing tables and graphs. It can send out alarms by email/text if a defined threshold is crossed or if a device has not reported in. Metron View is easily badged and customised, delivering bespoke reports and data exports and interfacing via an API with existing IIoT, management & control systems. We can work with you to develop a bespoke site for any application.
